STCW 95 Ship Security Officer

Course Outline

The objectives of this course is to provide all those attending with the practical skills and knowledge to undertake the duties of Ship Security Officer.

Content & Objectives

This course covers the following topics:
 

• ISPS (International Ship and Port Facility Security) Code
• Co-ordination and implementation of a ship security plan
• Maintain and supervise operation of ship security plan
• Monitoring of the ship's security environment and any necessary modifications, updates or reviews of the Ship Security plan elements
• Regular security inspections of ships to ensure appropriate security measures are maintained
• Co-ordinate all the security aspects involved on-board passenger or cargo carrying vessels

Learning Mode

This course is conducted over a three day period of theoretical and practical training. The course also comprises practical scenarios, and underpinning theory in addition to utilising some of the industries operational detection and electronic sensing devices. This course is taught at the Red Ensign training facility in Cowes.

Entry Requirements

Candidates wishing to undertake this module would be expected to have either:

12 months service at sea or appropriate sea service and knowledge of ships operations to ensure sufficient knowledge and practical experience of merchant vessel operations.

Any candidate will need to be holder of a Certificate of Competence (CoC).
 

Regulations for MARSEC personnel

According to new MCA regulations especially for the MARSEC industry
released to the training colleges on 16th September 2011 a STCW Certificate of Proficiency in Designated Security Duties will be issued on course completion if you do not have the required sea time of 12 months.

For participants looking at starting a career in Maritime Security we offer a separate 1 day "Global Piracy Awareness" module which you can combine with your SSO. The cost for the training is £150.00 incl. VAT.
