STCW 95 Elementary First Aid
Course Outline
The focus of the training is to give persons intending to go to sea a basic knowledge of the immediate action to be taken upon encountering an accident or other medical emergency aboard ship.
Content & Objectives
The following items are part of this course:
Develop competence in:
- Taking immediate action upon encountering an accident or other medical emergency
- Knowledge, Understanding and Proficiency of basic first aid
- Assess the needs of the casualty and threats to own safety
- Appreciation of body structure and functions
- Understanding of immediate measures to be taken in case of an emergency, including the ability to -
- Position Casualty
- Apply resuscitation techniques
- Control bleeding
- Apply appropriate measures of basic shock management
- Apply appropriate measures in event of burns and scalds
- Rescue and transport of a casualty
- Improvise bandages and use materials in emergency kit
Learning Mode
This course is taught at the Red Ensign training facility in Cowes.
Entry Requirements
There are no pre-requisites for this course. Candidates need to be 18 years of age.
