STCW 95 Crisis Management and Human Behaviour
Course Outline
This course enables candidates to become better aware of possible emergency and crisis situations that can occur on board passenger ships. Through use of scenarios and discussions, candidates will develop a better understanding of human behaviour in crisis situations, and develop skills to be able to maintain control, reduce panic and induce calm in an emergency situation.
Content & Objectives
The course covers the following subjects:
- What is a crisis?
- Training and drills; teamwork and its importance
- Leadership
- Personal strengths and weaknesses in a crisis
- Stress and basic human instincts of panic, fear, anger, and heroism
- Effective communications
Learning Mode
The course is taught at the Red Ensign training facility in Cowes. The course will be taught in a mixed mode involving use of scenarios, discussion and role play as well as some seminar style delivery.
