Before you embark on your career as a Maritime Security Consultant you will need to complete the STCW95 Basic Safety Training Package. This package of courses is compulsory for all crew working at sea and will provide you with the minimum standard of qualification to work on a vessel of any size. We have combined this essential safety training with other courses that we feel would be useful and will enhance your CV.

Days 1 & 2: RYA Powerboat Level 2
RYA Powerboat Level 2 is the base-level course for anyone operating a RIB or small powerboat. This two day course will provide powerboat experience on the water plus an introduction to navigation theory.
Day 3: RYA VHF DSC Short Range Radio
This course introduces you to your VHF and GMDSS radio sets, and to the procedures which are internationally recognised for use on the Short Range Radio airwaves.
Day 4: RYA Radar
The aim of the course is to teach you to use small boat Radar to assist decision-making in navigation, pilotage and collision avoidance.
Day 5: STCW 95 Elementary First Aid
You will gain a basic knowledge of the immediate action to be taken upon encountering an accident or other medical emergency aboard ship.
Day 6: STCW 95 Personal Survival Techniques
This training is designed to equip you with the background knowledge and practical experience of personal survival techniques, maximising your chances of survival in the event of a marine emergency.
Day 7 & 8: STCW 95 Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting
You will learn the principal causes of fires, the precautions to be taken to minimise the risk of fire in ships and how to maintain a state of readiness to respond to emergency situations on board. The practical exercises will teach you to fight and extinguish fires using fire fighting apparatus and appliances provided on board, act as a member of a fire party and will include the use of self-contained breathing apparatus.
Day 9: STCW 95 Personal Safety and Social Responsibility
You will gain a basic induction in safety procedures and accident prevention and be familiarized with the employment conditions and working environment on board merchant vessels.
Additional Course Option
We also offer the Red Ensign Basic Navigation and Chartwork course lasting 1 day which can be added to your training. This course teaches the essentials of navigation and chart reading, how tides and weather forecasts work, how to plan routes across the water and much more. The additional cost for this course is £116.50 inc VAT.
The price for this package is £1,150 including VAT + £30 payable to the RYA for a VHF Licence
