VHF DSC Short Range Radio
Course Outline
This course introduces you to your VHF and GMDSS radio sets, and to the procedures which are internationally recognised for use on the Short Range Radio airwaves.
The course follows the short range certification required to achieve the qualification of Restricted (VHF) Radio Operator which is a legal requirement for using or overseeing a VHF on board ship.

- Standard calling procedures

- Coastguard usage -
- Mayday
- Pan Pan
- Routine traffic
- DSCspecific usage

- Acknowledging information
Learning Mode
The course will be run in our specially equipped training room,using multiplelive radiosat at the Red Ensign training facility in Cowes.
Entry Requirements
There are no prerequisites for this course.
Participants must attend with a passport sized photograph.

This course also includes an exam. Successful candidates have their VHF SRC application sent to the RYA which carries an additional individual charge of £30 paid directly to the RYA.
