RYA Yachtmaster Coastal Skipper Practical (Power)
Course Outline
The RYA Yachtmaster Coastal Skipper teaches further skills and relies on greater experience than the previous course, Day Skipper. The aim of the course is to teach the skills and techniques required to skipper a cruising vessel (7-15m LOA) safely on coastal passages by day and night.

Learning Mode
The course is taught over five days on board one of our vessels in the Solent and surrounding waters.
Entry Requirements
A reasonable amount of skill on board a boat is required in order to take the Yachtmaster Coastal qualification. We would strongly recommend that you also have completed the Yachtmaster theory course.
In order to qualify as a Yachtmaster Coastal you are required to take a practical exam of around 6 to 10 hours at the end of the course which is assessed by an indeprendent RYA examiner.
In addition, you must also

hold at least a restricted (VHF) Radio Operator's Certificate or GMDSS Short Range certificate

hold a valid First Aid certificate (RYA or STCW)

Have logged 800 miles seatime in the previous10 years, 3 days living on board, 2 days as skipper and 12 night hours
