Course Outline
A more challenging course to the Powerboat level 3, this course focuses on powerboat day cruising. A more proficient and challenging course, aiming towards the advanced qualification. The course should provide you with the skills and knowledge for day cruising on your powerboat.
Content & Objectives
The course will cover the following subjects:
- Boat preparation; stowage
- Boat handing at low and high speeds
- Driving in different conditions
- Acting as skipper
- Pilotage
- Passage making
- Man overboard and recovery techniques
- Safety at sea
- Safety equipment
- Navigation, including charts, tides, buoyage and bearings.
- Meteorology
- Collision regulations
- Emergency situations
- Awareness of other water users
Learning Mode
This course is delivered over 2 days from the Red Ensign training facility in Cowes. It will be delivered on a variety of powerboats in order to develop flexible skills in the participants.
Entry Requirements
A good awareness of the water is beneficial for this course. Experience of driving ribs and small powerboats is expected prior to enrolling on this course.
