RYA Powerboat Advanced
Course Outline
The Advanced Powerboat course is aimed at experienced powerboaters and motor cruisers who would like to develop their skills in order to undertake safe passages overnight and manage themselves and their crew accordingly. It covers both practical and theoretical sessions, and includes the planning and execution of both a day and a night passage.

- Preparing the boat for sea
- Boat handling
- Rough weather handling
- Safety equipment
- Man overboard and recovery
- Other emergency situations
- Undertaking searches
- Passage making
- Night cruising
- Navigation and pilotage
- Collision regulations
- Awareness of other water users
Learning Mode
This course is taught at the Red Ensign training facility in Cowes.
Entry Requirements
This course requires a level of competence equivalent to that of the Intermediate powerboat course, which may have been gained either through the course or through logged experience.
