MCA Approved Engine Course

Course Outline
A 30 hour course designed to give students both the theoretical knowledge and practical hands-on experience of diesel engines. It will enable students to carry out regular servicing of marine diesel engines, and to carry out fault detection and prevention.
This course meets the requirements of the MCA Codes of Practice for the Safety of Large Commercial Sailing and Motor Vessels, the Safety of Small Commercial Motor Vessels and the Safety of Small Workboats and Pilot Boats.

The course will provide training in the following areas

The role of air in the combustion process

Hull fittings

Fault finding and rectification
Learning Mode
The course will be taught at the Red Ensign training facility in Cowes and will be run as a combination of theory and practical hands-on sessions working on our varied diesel engines.
Entry Requirements
Candidates must have some experience of working with diesel engines, over and above the level of the RYA Diesel Engine Maintenance qualification and current experience of working with diesels onboard a vessel would be helpful. Candidates must be over 18 years of age.

The cost of the course is £550.00 inc VAT.
