A good level of competency is required to pass the Yachtmaster (Offshore) exam. For more information, see our Yachtmaster course details below.
For a commercial certificate of competence, all commercial seafarers are required to hold a valid medical certificate. These are valid for a maximum of 2 years. The most rigorous part of the medical is that of eyesight, and the MCA strongly recommends that those intending to work in the merchant navy or in a maritime career takes their medical before embarking on a long period of training.
For more information about the medical requirements, and to find an MCA qualified medic, please see M notice MSN 1765 (M) on their website (www.mcga.gov.uk)
