This course introduces you to your VHF and GMDSS radio sets, and to the procedures which are internationally recognised for use on the Short Range Radio airwaves.

The course follows the short range certification required to achieve the qualification of Restricted (VHF) Radio Operator which is a legal requirement for using or overseeing a VHF on board ship.

The course will cover the following:

• Using the set
• The radio alphabet
• Ofcom and radio licensing law
• Standard calling procedures
• Specified channels
• Coastguard usage -
  • Mayday
  • Pan Pan
  • Routine traffic
• DSCspecific usage
  • MOB button
  • Acknowledging information

The course will be run in our specially equipped training rooms at our head quarters in Cowes, Isle of Wight.

There are no prerequisites for this course.

Participants must attend with a passport sized photograph.
