Coastal Certificate of Competence

COURSE NUMBER CS CoC


The Certificate of Competence can be taken as a stand-alone examination, separate from the Coastal Skipper five day course.

It is suitable for those who have the knowledge needed to skipper a yacht on coastal cruises but without the experience needed to undertake longer passages.

 

Exam:The exam will take 6 to 10 hours for a single candidate and 8 to 14 hours for two. Candidates will be set tasks to demonstrate their ability as a Coastal Skipper and may also be asked questions on any part of the syllabus for all pracitcal and shore based courses up to Coastal skipper

Afloat - either on board own boat and own crew, or through charter with Red Ensign.

Pre-exam requirements:

  • Radio Operator's Qualification
  • Valid First Aid certificate
  • Sea time:
    • 800 miles logges within 10 years prior to examination
    • 30 days living on board
    • 2 days as skipper
    • 12 night hours

For holders of the Coastal skipper practical course completion certificate the seatime requirement is reduced.
