STCW 95 Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boat

The objective of this course is to provide all those attending with the knowledge, understanding and proficiency to be able to:

  • Take charge of survival craft or rescue craft after abandoning ship
  • Manage survivors and survival craft after abandoning ship
  • Manage injured persons, including the control of bleeding and shock.

The course covers the following topics:

  • Emergency situations
  • Safety Guidance
  • Drills
  • Launching arrangements
  • Actions to be taken when abandoning ship
  • Lifeboats and launching arrangements
  • Actions to take when clear of ship
  • Rscue boat outboard engine
  • Methods of helicopter rescue
  • Hypothermia
  • First Aid
  • Radio Equipment

This course is conducted over a periods of Five [5] days of intensive practical boat work and theory sessions. Assessment is both continuous and by written examination.

The course is delivered through mixed modes. Theory sessions are taught in our dedicated training centre. A large proportion of the course is undertain on the River Medina and the Solent.

Trainees must be at least 16 years of age and have received approved or recognized training in one of the following:

  • Personal Survival Techniques,
  • Basic sea Survival,
  • The Royal Navy Survival Course,
  • The Fisherman's Safety Training Course.

For issue of certificates candidates must be not less than 18 years of age, meet the standard of competence and have approved sea-going service of not less than 6 months.
